OUR STORY
Modern Rose wasn't handed to us. We found a forgotten space, felt something in it, & decided to build something beautiful from scratch.
Founded by sisters Lydia & Leanna in 2023.
Two sisters.
One vision.
Zero limits.
FOUNDED 2023
Lydia and Leanna had been building their own separate brands for years — Lyd in hair, Leanna in lashes. Both thriving. Both feeling like something bigger was possible.
So they found a space in Shelton, CT that most people would have kept walking past. It was rough. It needed everything. But they saw it — the salon it could become.
Modern Rose opened its doors in 2024 as more than a salon. It's a collective — a curated space for artists who push boundaries, welcome everyone, and believe beauty is a form of self-expression, not a standard to meet.
We had a
plan.

DEDICATED IN LOVING MEMORY
Rose Josephine Perno
JANUARY 8TH, 1926 - JANUARY 30TH, 2013
Modern Rose is dedicated in honor of our grandmother, Rose Josephine Perno — the woman who saw us before we saw ourselves.
She called Lydia her “old soul” — and so Lydia built Old Souls Studio.
She called Leanna her “porcelain doll” — and so Leanna built Porcelain Studio.
When we came together, we brought her with us. Modern Rose carries her name in spirit — in every transformation, every client who leaves feeling like their most beautiful self.
She lives here.
